After making his Blue Note debut with Detroit - New York Junction in March 1956, Jones returned to the studio in July to record this remarkable session. Joining him were Billy Mitchell on tenor saxophone, Barry Harris on piano, Percy Heath on bass, and Max Roach on drums. The album kicks off with a memorable rendition of "April In Paris," echoing the renowned version recorded by the Count Basie Orchestra the previous year, complete with Jones's clever "Pop Goes The Weasel" reference. Highlights include Jones's own compositions, the relaxed "Billie-Doo" and the lightly swinging "Thedia," as well as the beautifully poignant ballad "If Someone Had Told Me."
