The album's creation is nothing short of remarkable, featuring contributions from over thirty session musicians across two continents. Greep notes, "Half of the tracks were recorded in Brazil, where local musicians were assembled at the last minute. They had never encountered my work before; they were drawn to the demos I shared. Most of the tracking took place in just one or two days."
The essence of street life permeates The New Sound, immersing listeners in a vibrant world filled with cafes, bars, shared living spaces, cabarets, and quirky museums. Here, our protagonists embark on mischievous adventures, military-themed antics, and socio-economic victories. With brass instruments, wah-wah pedals, and dynamic bass lines, the music bursts with energy, creating an atmosphere of excitement and anticipation. The tracks often shift dramatically, oscillating between soft whispers and powerful shouts, beginning and ending with an explosion of sound. Greep's increasingly fervent and elusive monologues evoke the spirits of both Franks (Zappa and Sinatra), with a hint of Scott Walker.
