Orville Peck is the recording project of Daniel Pitout, born 1988 in Johannesburg, South Africa. He performs in a iconic fringed mask (concealing his identity for the early years of his career, with his actual identity subsequently revealed). He is openly gay and associated with the contemporary queer country movement. He had previously been the drummer of the Canadian punk band Nü Sensae (active 2010-2014) before launching the Orville Peck project.
