Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats

Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats formed in Colorado in 2013, trading Rateliff's earlier folk work for a horn-driven Stax soul revival sound. The self-titled 2015 debut — home of the hit S.O.B. — is the one to start with, and Tearing at the Seams (2018) was producer Richard Swift's final work. About Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats

Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats formed in Denver, Colorado in 2013 around Nathaniel Rateliff after his earlier folk-oriented solo career. The band's distinctive Stax soul revival approach was developed in collaboration with producer Richard Swift (1977-2018). They signed with Stax Records (the legendary Memphis soul label) for their 2015 self-titled debut Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats - featuring the international hit single S.O.B. - which brought them commercial breakthrough. Producer Richard Swift died on July 3, 2018 amid substance abuse complications, with the 2018 album Tearing at the Seams being his final completed production work. The band has continued releasing material across multiple decades. Their work has been associated with the contemporary soul/R&B revival alongside contemporaries like Leon Bridges, Charles Bradley, and St. Paul & The Broken Bones.
