Nathaniel Rateliff was born in Hermann, Missouri on October 7, 1978 and raised in a Mennonite family. He relocated to Denver, Colorado in the late 1990s and pursued music while working construction. His solo catalog (separate from his work with the Night Sweats) has continued through his Falling Faster Than You Can Run (2013) and And It's Still Alright (2020) - the latter written in the wake of his close friend Richard Swift's death in 2018. He has continued releasing solo material across multiple decades alongside the more commercially successful Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats project.
