Laufey Lín Jónsdóttir was born in Reykjavík, Iceland on April 23, 1999 to an Icelandic father and a Chinese mother (the violinist Lin Wei). Her twin sister Junia is also a musician. She studied at Berklee College of Music. She launched her recording career in 2020 with self-released material and has built her audience through TikTok virality. Her 2023 album Bewitched won the Grammy Award for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album in 2024. She is widely cited as a defining figure in contemporary jazz-influenced pop, drawing on classic 1940s and 1950s jazz, bossa nova, and Great American Songbook traditions.
