Jason Isbell was born in Green Hill, Alabama on February 1, 1979 and raised near Muscle Shoals. He joined the Drive-By Truckers in 2001 as a guitarist and songwriter, contributing material to Decoration Day (2003) and The Dirty South (2004) before leaving the band in 2007. His solo catalog launched with Sirens of the Ditch (2007). His landmark album Southeastern (2013) - recorded after his 2012 entry into addiction treatment - established him as a defining contemporary Americana singer-songwriter. He has won six Grammy Awards across Best Americana Album, Best American Roots Song, and Best American Roots Performance. He has continued releasing material with his band the 400 Unit alongside solo work. He has been married to musician Amanda Shires since 2013 (separated 2023). Recent material has been released on his own Southeastern Records label.
