Chat Pile formed in Oklahoma City in 2019. The band's name refers to the toxic mining waste piles common to the Tar Creek Superfund site in northeastern Oklahoma. The four members perform under pseudonyms - Raygun Busch (vocals), Luther Manhole (guitar), Stin (bass), and Captain Ron (drums). They signed with the San Francisco-based label The Flenser and released their debut full-length God's Country in 2022, which earned critical acclaim across heavy and underground music press. The follow-up Cool World was released in 2024.
Chat Pile's sound combines noise rock, sludge metal, post-hardcore, and post-metal with confrontational, often spoken-word vocal delivery addressing American poverty, addiction, and environmental devastation.
