What Makes a Man Start Fires? is the second studio album (and fifth overall release) by American punk rock band Minutemen, released in January 1983 by SST.
Composed at a church turned punk squat in St. Paul Minnesota, this "punk opera" concept album marked a turning point for Husker Du, until then notable mostly for being super hardcore.
Slip It In is an extension of the sound Black Flag utilized on its second album My War: heavy, cathartic, intense, dense and progressive. At this point, Black Flag was considered by many to be one of the leading bands of the American punk scene.
