Wax Trax is hiring!

Two positions are available.

1. Inventory Specialist

Wax Trax is looking for a person who’s very detail-oriented and organized, in good physical shape, loves to be moving and busy, and wants to learn more about music and recorded music. This job is our entry-level position and is physically demanding.  Women, people of color, and LGBTQ are strongly encouraged to apply. Our staff and management are accustomed to being flexible and covering for people who occasionally need some time off to do a show now and then (though tours are a different conversation).

Job Description:

We’re a small and growing business, and this job is tightly focused on making sure our stock, including what people see on display in the store and online, reflects accurately what we physically have in the store. This involves a lot of running around and pulling overstock to put on display, a lot of checking what the database says against what is physically here, working with the website manager to keep the website accurate, and a lot of organizational tasks at both the new and used stores of Wax Trax. We need someone who naturally has tons of energy and loves to stay physically active. This job is also a great way to learn about recorded music and work your way into a counter sales position, or other positions at our store.

Skills required:

  1. Incredibly organized and motivated to find ways to improve the store’s organization
  2. Ability to lift heavy boxes of LPs
  3. Ability to be moving around on your feet all day, including doing lots of squats!
  4. Proficient with Excel/Google Sheets
  5. Experience with and an aptitude for understanding databases

Traits:

  • Detail oriented
  • Strong work ethic
  • Self-starter
  • Emotionally intelligent
  • Talks to strangers

Extra credit for:

  1. Experience with point of sale systems and/or e-commerce websites
  2. Any kind of experience in the music industry
  3. You don’t have to be in a band but it does indicate your interest in music so let us know…

Other requirements:

This is a part-time position, and it's typically the only entry-level position at the store (it doesn't require prior record store experience). Must be available to work regular 8-hour long shifts on Saturdays and Sundays. We also potentially have 8-hour shifts available on Thursdays and Fridays, please let us know if you can do those as well.  There is an option to work 10-hour shifts on the weekend (for a total of 20 hrs.) if desired.

Compensation:

This is an entry level position that starts at $16-$16.50/hr based on relevant experience. The full range of pay for this position is $16-$17.50/hr, based on how tidy the store’s stock is kept. Please note that this is typically Wax Trax’s only entry-level position (the only one available to people without previous record store experience). When other positions become available, inventory people who are meticulous keepers of the store stock will have a chance to advance.
