Original William Onyeabor pressings turned into expensive collector's items long before Luaka Bop got a reissue together, the eight self-released albums he'd made between 1977 and 1985 nearly impossible to find after he walked away from music for Christianity. Uchenna Ikonne, who first heard Onyeabor through the compilations Nigeria 70 and World Psychedelic Classics 3, spent years tracking him down before curating Who Is William Onyeabor?, the catalog's first official reissue. Pitchfork called it one of the year's best reissues, and NPR named it among its favorite albums of the year.
