A busted wrist put Steve Vai on this record: Adrian Vandenberg couldn't play, so Vai, straight off stints with Frank Zappa and David Lee Roth, cut his parts alone in his home studio with full creative freedom. Slip of the Tongue hit No. 10 in both the US and UK, but Finland is the one place a Whitesnake album has ever gone all the way to No. 1. "Fool for Your Loving '89" and "The Deeper the Love" carried the singles, and Coverdale later broke up the band to work with Jimmy Page.
