Practical Magic Soundtrack (1998) LP

The Practical Magic soundtrack plays like two different records sharing one sleeve, Alan Silvestri's orchestral score cuts sitting right next to the pop and rock songs that actually played in the movie. It's less a mood album than a used record bin somebody organized specifically for one film, running from Stevie Nicks and Nick Drake over to Joni Mitchell, Marvin Gaye, Elvis Presley, and, for some reason, Harry Nilsson's "Coconut." Silvestri, who's scored half of Robert Zemeckis's filmography at this point, also wrote "Amas Veritas," the theme built around the whole plot's central spell, so even the orchestral half is doing double duty as a plot device.
