A La Altura: Visionary Mexican Music 1977-1999 Vol. One 2LP

Much of A La Altura traces back to El Chopo, the Mexico City flea market that became a hub for DIY tape trading under government pressure on countercultural expression, gathering experimental Mexican music from the late 1970s through the late 1990s. Light in the Attic compiled it with the Mexico City imprint Discos Carbon, working from original tapes and masters to spotlight artists like Jorge Reyes and Antonio Zepeda, who fused electronic and indigenous instrumentation with ambient, jazz, and free improvisation.
