Reverb here doesn't decorate, it detonates: Lee "Scratch" Perry and the Upsetters cut this in the early 1970s, the same stretch that produced Perry's landmark dub sides, engineering it alongside King Tubby with Jamaican session players that included members of the Wailers and Augustus Pablo on melodica. These stripped-down, echo-heavy mixes rank among the first dub records cut in stereo, part of the studio-as-instrument method Perry and Tubby built at the Black Ark and Tubby's own room, one of the foundation stones of dub as a genre.
