French Exit came and went with barely a ripple when TV Girl self-released it, Brad Petering's songwriting built up by producer Jason Wyman around samples lifted from the Poni-Tails, Laura Nyro, Andrea Carroll, and the Shirelles. Nobody was paying attention until years later, when 'Lovers Rock' caught on TikTok and pulled the whole album past a billion Spotify streams. It is the rare case of a record's real audience showing up a decade late.
