Black One CD

Black One is the Sunn O))) record where the joke and the horror share a riff: Southern Lord, the label Greg Anderson co-founded, put it out, co-produced with Mathias Schneeberger, and it leans harder into black metal than almost anything else in their catalog, trading blast beats for pure crawl. Xasthur's Malefic and Leviathan's Wrest guest on vocals, and Malefic is said to have tracked his parts from inside a coffin inside a hearse, either a stunt or the most committed performance note in metal. It closes on "Bathory Erzsebet," a tribute to Swedish black metal pioneers Bathory.
