The Alien Coast LP

The Alien Coast comes from St. Paul & The Broken Bones, the Birmingham, Alabama soul band fronted by Paul Janeway, a former preacher-in-training who first learned to sing in church choir. Produced by Matt Ross-Spang for ATO Records, it was the group's first album cut in their hometown, and it throws soul, psychedelia, stoner metal, and funk together like a potluck where nobody checked what anyone else was bringing. Reviewers called it a fever-dream convergence of styles, built around the single The Last Dance.
