This is the one Smith cut largely by himself on a four-track in the basement of the Portland house he shared with JJ Gonson, still moonlighting on guitar in Heatmiser while he built it. Cavity Search put it out in 1994, nine songs of close-mic'd acoustic guitar and vocals kept deliberately quiet and unpolished. Kill Rock Stars eventually took over the catalog and had engineer Larry Crane scrub out noise and distortion without touching Smith's original mixes. Nobody was paying attention at the time. That's the part that should worry you now.
