And the War Came pulls Shakey Graves out of the one-man-band setup he ran on 2011's Roll the Bones and plugs Alejandro Rose-Garcia into a full group, with Patrick O'Connor, Jon Shaw and Chris Boosahda rounding things out in the studio and on tour. Esme Patterson co-writes and sings on several cuts, including "Dearly Departed," which went gold and landed the pair on Conan and Letterman. The album climbed to number 44 on the Billboard 200, proof the bigger sound paid off.
