(self-titled) LP

OMD's self-titled 1980 debut got Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys signed to Dindisc, the Virgin subsidiary, on the strength of one song, "Electricity," and they built the record themselves in a converted Liverpool warehouse on a handful of early synthesizers. It climbed into the UK Top 30 and earned the band its first gold disc; the die-cut metal sleeve, designed by Peter Saville and Ben Kelly, picked up a design award of its own, and the re-recorded "Messages" became a UK Top 20 hit.
