Nineteen studios around London and roughly two years went into finishing Loveless, plus a studio bill so high that Kevin Shields still disputes the number. Bilinda Butcher's vocals vanish into the guitar wash while Colm O Ciosoig and Debbie Googe hold the bottom end, and for all that expense the record only reached number 24 on the UK chart.
