Mudhoney cut 'Piece of Cake' in a single session at Egg Studios for about fifteen thousand dollars, Reprise's money but Reprise staying out of the way. Bassist Matt Lukin called it the first Mudhoney record he actually felt good about, which says something coming from a band that helped start the whole Seattle wave this one rode in on. 'Suck You Dry' and 'Blinding Sun' carried it, and Spin later put the album in its top twenty of 1992, a quieter vindication for a band that never needed the loudest one.
