Sage Motel LP

Monophonics, the Bay Area retro-soul outfit led by singer and producer Kelly Finnigan, cut its fifth album, Sage Motel, for Colemine Records. The concept holds the record together: a roadside motel that starts as a 1940s truck stop and slides into a bohemian hangout by the '60s and '70s. Horns do the heavy lifting here, with psych-rock guitar cutting through the soul, picking up right where It's Only Us left off.
