The Business LP

Mike James Kirkland's catalog runs from fronting Mike & the Censations through half of the duo Bo and Ruth, whose 'You're Gonna Get Next To Me' cracked the UK top 20 in 1977, and it stayed mostly out of circulation until Ubiquity's Luv N' Haight imprint started reissuing it and John Legend and the Roots covered his 'Hang On In There' in 2010. 'The Business' puts him back in front of a band for the first time in that long stretch, with Monophonics playing backing group and Kelly Finnigan producing sessions cut across 2021 and 2022. It's a pairing of a vintage soul voice with a band built in that same tradition, backing him rather than reinventing him.
