After touring Working Class Woman into the ground, Marie Davidson stepped off the club circuit and started a new trio, L'Oeil Nu, with her husband and longtime collaborator Pierre Guerineau, also her partner in the duo Essaie Pas, plus fellow Montreal musician Asael R. Robitaille. Renegade Breakdown plays more like a pop record than a club one, with Davidson pointing to French singer Mylene Farmer as her reference point this time, a hard left turn from the spoken-word techno that made her name in the first place.
