Leroy Carr and Scrapper Blackwell built Prohibition-era Indianapolis blues around a simple push and pull: Carr's loose piano and vocals leaning against Blackwell's single-string guitar lines. Their 1928 Vocalion cut "How Long, How Long Blues" broke through and pushed blues toward the smoother, city sound that Ray Charles and T-Bone Walker later carried forward. Carr died in 1935 at thirty. This Yazoo set pulls together sides the pair recorded between 1929 and 1934.
