The Gem LP

Jumping to a label as austere as 4AD, Julia Jacklin made her most unglamorous record yet, working with her band in rooms above a Melbourne pub instead of the bigger studio sessions that shaped Pre Pleasure. The album takes its title from that pub, the Gem, which says where her head was: less studio prestige, more the room she stood in. Get Away from Me (I Think I'll Love You Soon) previewed the shift on Triple J, borrowing eighties jangle from the Melbourne guitar scene she came up in.
