Johnny Bragg co-founded the Prisonaires while serving time at Tennessee State Penitentiary, where Sun Records producer Sam Phillips recorded them in Memphis under armed guard, an odd way to book a session but it worked. "Just Walkin' in the Rain" sold roughly 250,000 copies on Sun before Johnnie Ray's cover buried it in sales many times over. After his sentence was commuted, Bragg kept going, fronting the Marigolds through "Rollin' Stone," a number 8 R&B hit for Decca. Let Me Dream On pulls together solo sides from that whole unlikely run.
