Hot Buttered Soul CD

Isaac Hayes filled his second Enterprise album with just four songs, two covers and two originals, stretched into side-long suites built on his baritone, a Hammond organ, and the Bar-Kays' rhythm section. A twelve-minute "Walk On By" and an eighteen-minute "By the Time I Get to Phoenix" ignored every rule about radio length and still turned Hayes into a star, sending the album to No. 1 on Billboard's R&B albums chart and a gold certification. Rolling Stone later placed it among the 500 greatest albums ever made.
