Wong Kar-wai steals time with "Yumeji's Theme," a piece Shigeru Umebayashi wrote for Suzuki Seijun's 1991 film Yumeji and borrows wholesale to stretch a glance or a touch into something unbearable. Around it he stacks three of Nat King Cole's Spanish-language recordings, a direct line back to the Latin pop that filled Hong Kong radio when he was a kid, plus Michael Galasso's cello-led score and vintage Shanghai pop from Zhou Xuan. This Universal Music Japan pressing collects that whole patched-together mix on vinyl, every borrowed and original piece fighting for the same room.
