Self-Titled LP

Ikebe Shakedown took their name from a Nigerian boogie record before they'd fully settled on a sound, and by the time this self-titled LP arrived on Ubiquity Records, following the Hard Steppin' EP on Colemine, they had one: horn-driven instrumental funk built on Afrobeat and psychedelic soul, with cinematic touches that owe something to Ennio Morricone. It set the template for the Brooklyn band's later albums, which have since reached the Billboard Jazz Albums chart.
