Ill Times LP

Jay Watson moonlights as GUM while playing in Pond and touring behind Tame Impala; on Ill Times he teams with Ambrose Kenny-Smith of King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard and the Murlocs, a pairing that traces back to a 2009 Tame Impala show in Geelong. Released on King Gizzard's p(doom) label, it grew from a synth-funk sketch that became "Old Transistor Radio" and sprawled into psych-rock, funk and soul. It opens with "Dud," written for Kenny-Smith's late father Broderick Smith of the Dingoes, and closes with a cover of the Impressions' "Fool for You."
