Steve Albini pointed a mic at a Romani-punk cabaret and the result was Gypsy Punks: Underdog World Strike, the record that pushed Gogol Bordello out of the club circuit, released on SideOneDummy Records. Robert Christgau gave it an A, Pitchfork scored it 7.8, and Eugene Hütz's band earned every point of it, fusing Balkan folk into songs like Start Wearing Purple and Immigrant Punk. This 2LP repress on frosted shadow vinyl carries the full fifteen-track album, closing where it always did, on Mishto, like a last shot of plum brandy.
