Gal LP

Gal Costa's second album, from 1969 on Philips, counts as her most experimental work and a key document of Brazil's Tropicália movement, running bossa nova and samba straight into psychedelic rock and sharp electric guitar at the peak of the country's countercultural upheaval. Manoel Barenbein produced, Rogério Duprat handled arrangements, Jards Macalé played guitar, and Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil both sat in on the sessions. Pitchfork later called it one of the heaviest documents to come out of Tropicália.
