Commontime LP

Commontime sands down the angular edges Field Music built its name on, swapping friction for a funk-lined glide. The fifth album from Sunderland brothers David and Peter Brewis became the band's first UK Top 40 entry, climbing to number 36. Critics heard echoes of Talking Heads, XTC, David Bowie, and Peter Gabriel in its brighter pop turn. Jennie Brewis and the Cornshed Sisters' Liz Corney fill out the backing vocals throughout.
