A New World Record LP

It took three straight commercial misses at home before Jeff Lynne, who wrote and produced every note of A New World Record himself, finally cracked the UK top ten, a country that had somehow ignored a band already going platinum in America. The album climbed to No. 5 on the Billboard 200 behind four singles, "Livin' Thing," "Do Ya," "Rockaria!," and "Telephone Line," the last of which became ELO's first UK gold single, and introduced the spaceship logo Kosh designed, one that has outlasted most of the songs in casual memory.
