The Eagles' first move was playing it almost suspiciously straight: a debut built on country, rock, and folk harmony, cut mostly at Olympic Studios in London with producer Glyn Johns. Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Bernie Leadon, and Randy Meisner turned "Take It Easy" and "Witchy Woman" into hit singles straight off the album, which says something about how calculated the whole thing wasn't. It went platinum, helped shove country-rock into the mainstream, and Rolling Stone later put it on its list of the greatest albums ever made.
