Algiers LP

Calexico tracked part of Algiers in New Orleans's own Algiers neighborhood at the Living Room Studio, then hauled the tapes home to finish at Tucson's Wavelab and Studio Calexico. It's Joey Burns and John Convertino's first record for ANTI- after years elsewhere, and it pushes their desert-noir mix of indie rock, Tex-Mex horns and Americana twang into open, dusty space. The A.V. Club gave it an A-minus, and it climbed to number six on the Americana/Folk Albums chart.
