Balls to Picasso is the record Bruce Dickinson made walking out of Iron Maiden's door, cut with guitarist Roy Z and his band Tribe of Gypsies, a pairing that stuck around for years afterward. EMI put it out in Europe, Mercury in the US, and it peaked at number 21 in the UK while barely registering stateside. Dickinson later admitted he and Roy Z got talked into softening the record, though Tears of the Dragon still hits like it meant it. Not every compromise loses its teeth.
