Brokencyde - Myspace Top 8 LP

Myspace built Brokencyde's audience before Suburban Noize Records or MTV's Total Request Live entered the picture. The Albuquerque, New Mexico group fused screamed vocals with crunk and electronic beats to help launch crunkcore in the late 2000s, drawing heavy dismissal from critics at the time. Some writers have since reassessed the band as an unlikely forerunner to hyperpop and emo rap, pointing to the E-40 collaboration "Booty Call" as proof of its unpolished, divisive, internet-bred sound. That reassessment is the real story here.
