Gears grinding back into motion after five years off the road, Antibalas returned to Daptone's House of Soul Studios in Bushwick with Gabe Roth, the label's co-founder and the producer behind the band's first three records, back at the board. The layoff came from touring Fela!, the Broadway and West End musical built on Fela Kuti's catalog, and this self-titled fifth album channels that same Afrobeat lineage straight back through Antibalas's own horn-driven, percussion-heavy arrangements.
