About Yob
Yob formed in Eugene, Oregon in 1996, founded and led by guitarist and vocalist Mike Scheidt. After an initial run and a brief disbandment in the mid-2000s, the band reformed and went on to become one of the most respected names in contemporary doom metal. Scheidt's vision, combining heaviness with introspection and spirituality, has anchored the band throughout its career.
Sound and style
Yob play doom metal and sludge metal characterized by massive, slow riffs, extended song lengths, dynamic shifts, and Scheidt's distinctive vocals ranging from clean chants to harsh roars. Their music is frequently described as meditative and transcendent, with lyrics exploring spirituality, mortality, and consciousness, setting them apart within the doom genre.
