About Twenty One Pilots
Twenty One Pilots formed in Columbus, Ohio in 2009. After early independent releases, the duo settled into its definitive form as Tyler Joseph (vocals, piano, bass, ukulele) and Josh Dun (drums), signing to Fueled by Ramen. They became one of the biggest acts of the 2010s, known for an intricate, evolving conceptual storyline (centered on the fictional world of Trench and the character Blurryface) woven across their albums and visuals.
Sound and style
Twenty One Pilots blend pop, alternative rock, hip hop, electropop, reggae, and emo into a genre-fluid sound built around Joseph's rapping and singing and Dun's energetic drumming. Their music pairs catchy hooks with introspective lyrics about mental health, faith, and anxiety, and their conceptual world-building has fostered a deeply engaged fan base.
