About Toro y Moi

Toro y Moi is the project of Chaz Bear (formerly Chaz Bundick), who began recording in Columbia, South Carolina in the late 2000s and later based himself in California. Emerging alongside artists like Washed Out as a defining voice of chillwave, Bear has continually evolved the project across many styles. He records primarily for Carpark Records and has also produced and collaborated widely.

Sound and style

Toro y Moi's music spans chillwave, synth-pop, psychedelic soul, funk, indie rock, and house. Early releases featured hazy, sample-based bedroom production, while later work embraced live instrumentation, cleaner pop songwriting, and dance-oriented experiments. This restless stylistic range is a hallmark of the project.
