Tate McRae was born in Calgary, Alberta on July 1, 2003. She launched her career as a dancer before transitioning to recording. She first gained recognition as a finalist on the 2016 So You Think You Can Dance: The Next Generation reality television series (the first Canadian to do so). She signed with RCA Records and launched her recording career in 2017, with YouTube and TikTok viral attention building her audience across the late-2010s. Her 2022 debut LP I Used to Think I Could Fly received commercial attention. Her 2023 follow-up Think Later - featuring the international single Greedy (which reached #3 on the Billboard Hot 100) - became a commercial breakthrough, reaching #4 on the Billboard 200.
