Rosalia

Rosalía is a Spanish singer, songwriter, and producer from Catalonia, born in 1992, who fused flamenco tradition with contemporary pop and won the Latin Grammy for Album of the Year twice. El Mal Querer (2018) — literally her college thesis project — and the experimental Motomami (2022) are both essential. Explore Rosalía vinyl, CDs, and reissues at Wax Trax Records.

About Rosalia

Rosalía Vila Tobella was born in Sant Esteve Sesrovires, Catalonia, Spain on September 25, 1992. She studied at the Catalonia College of Music (Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya), where her 2018 album El Mal Querer served as her university thesis project - produced collaboratively with El Guincho (Pablo Diaz-Reixa), the album reimagined a 14th-century medieval text Flamenca with integration of contemporary Latin pop, R&B, and flamenco traditions. It won the Latin Grammy Award for Album of the Year in 2019. Her 2022 follow-up Motomami pivoted toward more experimental electronic and contemporary Latin urbano approaches and won the Latin Grammy Award for Album of the Year in 2022. Her 2025 follow-up LUX continued her trajectory with international critical attention. She has won 13 Latin Grammys total and Grammy Awards. Her foundational influence on contemporary Latin pop and broader popular music is widely cited.

Sound and style

Rosalia's sound combines Latin pop, flamenco, reggaeton, R&B, alternative pop, art pop, contemporary Latin urbano, and experimental pop with her distinctive vocal delivery (use of traditional flamenco vocal techniques), integration of traditional Spanish flamenco with contemporary pop production approaches, and arrangements drawing on classical flamenco traditions alongside contemporary international pop influences.
