Reyna Tropical

Reyna Tropical formed in Los Angeles around 2017 as the duo of Fabi Reyna and producer Sumohair, mixing Latin alternative, cumbia, and indie folk in Spanish and English. After Sumohair's death in 2022, Reyna carried the project on solo — the 2024 debut LP Malegría is a moving tribute and the place to start. About Reyna Tropical

Reyna Tropical formed in Los Angeles around 2017 as a duo with Fabi Reyna (Mexican-American multi-instrumentalist, also founder of She Shreds magazine) and Sumohair (Nectali Diaz, Honduran-American producer). Their distinctive blend of contemporary indie folk, Latin alternative, electronic music, and Spanish and English language lyrical content has positioned them within the contemporary Latin alternative and indie folk revival scenes. Sumohair died in 2022; Fabi Reyna continued the project as a solo artist. The 2024 debut LP Malegría was conceived as a tribute to Sumohair and completed by Fabi Reyna following his death.

Sound and style

Reyna Tropical's sound combines Latin alternative, indie folk, electronic, tropicalia, cumbia, Latin pop, world music, and indie pop with multi-vocalist arrangements (use of Spanish and English-language vocals), atmospheric production approaches, and arrangements drawing on Latin American musical traditions (Mexican and Central American influences) alongside contemporary indie folk and electronic music influences.
