Jordan Terrell Carter, performing as Playboi Carti, was born in Atlanta, Georgia on September 13, 1996. He launched his recording career in the mid-2010s with SoundCloud distribution before signing with A$AP Mob's AWGE collective. His 2017 self-titled mixtape Playboi Carti was widely cited as one of the foundational documents of the contemporary baby voice rap aesthetic. His 2020 album Whole Lotta Red - produced by Pi'erre Bourne and others - became a commercial breakthrough and is widely cited as the foundational document of the contemporary rage rap movement. His distinctive vocal delivery (use of high-pitched and screamed approaches) has been influential on subsequent generations of hip hop artists (Yeat, Destroy Lonely, Ken Carson, and contemporary rage rap scene). His 2025 album Music is his first studio LP in five years.
