Hassan Emilio Kabande Laija, performing as Peso Pluma (Spanish for featherweight, a boxing weight class), was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico on June 15, 1999 to Lebanese-Mexican heritage. He launched his recording career in the late 2010s. He has been successful in the contemporary corridos tumbados movement alongside Natanael Cano and others, with commercial crossover to mainstream Latin and American audiences. His 2023 album Génesis was his commercial breakthrough - reaching number three on the Billboard 200 (achievement for a regional Mexican album) and winning the Latin Grammy Award for Best Música Mexicana Album in 2023. His collaborations with mainstream artists (work with Bad Bunny, Becky G, Eslabon Armado, Junior H, and others) have expanded the corridos tumbados audience.
